Guess how much this meal is!

Many of our students are surprised by how enthusiastic they become for Korean food!

Korean cuisine is largely based upon rice, vegetables, and meats. Traditional Korean meals are noted for the number of side dished(banchan) that accompany steam-cooked short-grain rice. Kimchi is served often, generally at every meal.

We’ve had a few questions from prospective students recently about the cost of food in Korea, so we decided to share our lunch with you!  These pictures are taken by our staff at ta nearby Korean restaurant, to give an idea of the cost of living in Korea.

We just ordered Kimchi-soup, which, like most Korean meals, came with  8 side dishes and rice.  This lunch cost KRW5000, which is roughly $5.  After travelling overseas, when we get home it always feels like Korean food is very reasonably priced!

Of course you can have many type of Western food easily in Korea, too, but in our experience students eat mostly Korean food while they are living in Seoul – it’s cheap, delicious, and there is endless variety to work your way through!
